Vermicelli Upma / Shavige uppittu - Southindian Breakfast

Recipie: Vermicelli Upma / Shavige Upittu 


Ingredients: 

1) Carrot - chopped 2nos

2) Beans - chopped 1cup

3) Cabbage - chopped 1cup

4) Tomato - chopped 2nos 

5) Red chilli - 4 (or green chilli)

6) Roasted Vermicelli - of your choice, I've used dragon. 

7) Mustard - 1 tsp

8) Urad & chana dal - 1 tsp 

9) Turmeric - 1 tsp 

10) Water

11) Salt to taste

12) Coriander leaves

13) Grated coconut




Preparation Method:

1) Chop all the vegetables and keep aside. 

2) Boil water with a pinch of salt and 1 tsp oil, cook the vermicelli in hot boiling water for 10 min. Check if it is done and turn off the gas, drain the water and keep it aside. 

3) Heat oil in a kadai, add oggarne/tadka spices - Mustard seeds, urad & chana dal, red chilli & turmeric and fry them all together. 

4) Add all the chopped vegetables, add the tomatoes in the end. (As shown in my video) 

5) Fry them together and cook for 10 min, close with a lid. 

6) Now add the boiled vermicelli/shavige into the kadai slowly and mix it well. 

7) Add 2 tsp salt (or as required)

8) Cook for 5min. 

9) Garnish with grated coconut and coriander leaves. 

10) Add lemon juice if required. (its optional)


*You can serve with chutney of your choice. 

Vermicelli Upma / Shavige Upittu is ready to serve & eat!
