Recipe: Dal Tadka - Lentil curry - Lunch/Dinner menu
Ingredients:
✴️ Toor dal/Tugribele - 3cups
✴️ Chopped onion & tomatoes - 2nos
✴️ Dry red chilli byadgi & guntur - 4-5nos
✴️ Cumin seeds/Jeera - 2-3tsp
✴️ Turmeric powder - 3-4tsp
✴️ Red chilli powder - 2tsp
✴️ Garlic ginger paste - 1 tbsp
✴️ Garam masala - 2tsp
✴️ Kitchen king masala - 2tsp
✴️ Chole masala/pav bhaji masala *this is optional it enhances the flavour. (Untill u tell, no one can even imagine you've added these)😅
✴️ Freshly chopped coriander leaves - for garnishing
✴️ Oil, Butter, ghee, water & salt as required.
Preparation Method:
1) firstly let's cook the dal/lentils in cooker, wash 3cups of toor dal in a vessel, add sufficient water & turmeric powder keep aside for 15min & then pressure cook for 3-4 whistle.
2) Heat 2 tsp of ghee in a kadai, add Jeera/Cumin seeds, dry red chillies, turmeric powder and roast them well.
3) Now add chopped onions, garlic ginger paste & saute it well untill translucent.
4) Add the tomatoes and keep mixing it well untill it turns mushy add little water at this stage (use the dal cooked water for better taste).
5) Add some butter over it and let it cook for 2-3min.
6) Now add red chilli powder & garam masala and cook for 5min keep adding water if you feel the masala is sticking to kadai.
7) And it's time to add the cooked dal/lentils into the kadai, mash the dal or hand blend it before adding. Add salt 2tsp or as per taste and mix it up well.
8) Also add the other masala mentioned in ingredients above and mix them together.
Add 2tsp ghee and cook this for 5-10min wait for the perfect dal consistency.
9) You can add water as per your choice based on how thick or thin you prefer eating and adjust spices accordingly. Generally dal is meduim thick in consistency.
10) Garnish with coriander leaves, a pinch of lemon squeeze or tamarind goes good and add final tempering with ghee, jeera & dry red chili & it's done.
Best eaten with Rice or even chapathi/roti is a good option. Dal chawal is very popular as we all know.
