Sabudana Khichadi - (Fasting food) Navaratri Special Tapioca pearl meal
Recipe: Sabudana/Sabbakki Khichadi - Tapioca pearl meal
Ingredients:
1) Sabudana/Sago/ Tapioca pearl - 2 cups
2) Roasted groundnut powder/Peanut powder - as required
3) Jeera/Cumin seeds - 2tsp
4) Green chilli - 4-5 chopped
5) Boiled diced potatoes - 2 large.
6) Oil as required
7) Salt to taste
8) Pinch of sugar
9) Coriander for garnish
Preparation Method:
1) Wash the sabudana well and soak it overnight in water to about 1 inch above the sabudana (As shown in the Video)
2) Close the lid and keep it aside. Next morning, check if the sabudana is soaked well by checking there's no water left and press one sabudana ball and see if you can crush it with your fingers.
3) Dry roast the groundnuts and remove the skin (as much as possible) and grind them to a coarse powder.
4) Add 2-3 large spoons of groundnut powder to the sabudana, salt and a pinch of sugar, mix well and keep aside.
5) Heat a kadhai, add oil and jeera and let it splutter.
6) Next, add the diced boiled potatoes and green chilli and cook for 2-3 minutes.
7) You can more oil at this point if required.
8) Now add the sabudana mixture into the kadai & mix it well.
9) You can more groundnut powder if you like at this point.
10) Mix it again & cook the sabudana for about 20min on low flame with a closed lid.
11) Mix it a couple of times in between so it cooks evenly.
12) Once the sabudana is soft and almost translucent, it is cooked perfectly.
13) Finally, add chopped coriander for garnish. (I have not added it in my recipe).
